Meet our doctors:
Dr. Al H. Covington grew up in Sanford, North Carolina. He graduated from Sanford Central High School in 1969. He attended Elon College on a football scholarship where he graduated in 1973 with a B.A. Degree in Biology. He then furthered his education at the Southern College of Optometry where he received his Doctorate in 1978.
After graduation, Dr. Covington set his roots and began his Optometric career in Rockingham, NC, where he immediately opened Covington Optometric Eye Clinic. In 1982 his brother, Don Covington, joined his practice and together they opened a satellite office in Wadesboro, NC. In the spring of 2010 Dr. Covington expaned once again and purchased a practice in Cheraw, SC.
Dr. Covington has always had a strong desire to both be a part of and to give back to his community. He has been a member of the Rockingham Rotary Club for 33 years during which time he served as president; was a past distinquished Rotarian of the Year and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was given an Honorary Lifetime Membership in 1993 by the Wadesboro Rotary Club. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Richmond Community College and the Foundation Board. He is a Board member of the Cole Foundation. In addition, he serves on the Advisory Board for Four Oaks Bank and is an active member at Glenwood United Methodist Church. In 2011 he received the distinquished honor of being Awarded the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
Dr. Covington is a member of the North Carolina State Optometric Society and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Covington and his wife Pat have three beautiful daughters and six amazing grandchildren. The best times of his life have been spent playing golf with his friends and more importantly, being with his FAMILY.
